Aaron Glenn Wants to Be Best Defensive Coordinator Detroit Lions Have Ever Had

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has potentially put himself in a position to become a head coach in the National Football League.
All season long, Detroit's defense has been forced to scheme and game plan, despite losing many key contributors along the defensive line and in the secondary.
"I know it’s a cliché and everybody says it, but this league is really like, it is next-man-up mentality," Glenn told reporters earlier this season. "So, that’s how you’ve got to operate. Even with all the issues that’s going on with COVID-related stuff, it’s still next man up. We make no excuses. Everybody gets coached, everybody’s in the meeting room and we just got to make sure that we play at a high level."
During his latest media session, Glenn was asked about the potential opportunity that awaits him to interview with other NFL teams to become their next head coach.
"I want to be the best coordinator the Lions ever had, and that's all I think about," Glenn replied.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been regularly interviewing potential candidates to replace Urban Meyer, who was fired earlier this season.
"If it happens, those things happen, man," Glenn explained. "But, listen, this is a huge job that I have right now. I want to be the best I can be at it. I want to be the best that ever came through Detroit. I want you guys to say that at some point. That's what my goal is."
One aspect of Detroit's defense that must improve moving forward is limiting its opponents when they reach the red zone.
This season, Detroit ranks 31st in both red-zone defense and offense.
Only the Raiders currently allow a higher percentage (79.5%) of touchdowns than Detroit (70.2%).
