Why Chargers Need to Worry about Amon-Ra St. Brown

Chargers need to devise a strategy to limit Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Through two-and-a-half seasons, Amon-Ra St. Brown has emerged as one of the best receivers in the NFL.

In seven games this year, the third-year wideout has amassed 57 receptions for 665 yards and three touchdowns. For his efforts, he's earned the 11th-best Pro Football Focus grade among all qualified receivers (83.6).

Additionally, he's accumulated north of 100 receiving yards each of his last three games, and is currently averaging a career-best 95 receiving yards per game. It translates to the USC product being on pace for 855 yards the final nine games of the season, which would equate to 1,520 total receiving yards by the end of the season. That figure would eclipse his career-best mark for receiving yards in a single season (1,161 yards in 2022).

It's absolutely reasonable to expect St. Brown to be prominently featured on Sunday against the L.A. Chargers, too.

He'll be facing a Chargers defense that has allowed the most passing yards in the league through eight games (2,288). The Brandon Staley-led squad has also permitted the sixth-most yards per pass attempt (6.6).

On top of all that, Los Angeles has already given up 100-plus yards to four pass-catchers this season (the last one being Kansas City's Travis Kelce in Week 7).

It screams to me that St. Brown should be in store for another big game in this Week 10 matchup.

Strange but true, Lions quarterback Jared Goff recently compared St. Brown to his former Rams teammate, seven-time All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

"Certain guys are different. And, I want to make a comparison, but I don't want it to sound crazy. But, the way that he is, in the weight room and on the field are very similar in my experience with Aaron Donald," Goff told ESPN. "Like, it is business, business, business. He works harder than everybody.

"Aaron's the hardest worker I've ever been around, and Saint's right there with him, just with the amount of time they put in and how serious they take it when they're on the field. It's a lot of fun to play with a guy like that."

If you weren't convinced already, you should be now that the Chargers need to worry about St. Brown, Goff's go-to target, headed into Sunday.
