'We're Working Through It': Lions Evaluating Offensive Line Depth

The Detroit Lions' reserve offensive linemen did not have a solid showing against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to Pro Football Focus, Detroit's interior offensive linemen were accountable for 10 of the 14 total pressures against the Jaguars.

Last season, Detroit's depth along the offensive line was slightly better, as Evan Brown was versatile to play at multiple spots when called upon.

Brown ended up signing a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason.

Detroit brought back veteran Graham Glasgow, and drafted Colby Sorsdal.

Behind them, though, are several players who collectively have not had the best training camp.

"We’re working through it. We’re working through it and there again, we’ll look at this tape and find the guys we can rely on and listen, you just never know. Brad (Holmes) and his crew, they’re looking at everything, and it’s not just our own squad," said Dan Campbell, after Detroit's 25-7 loss to the Jaguars. "They’re looking at 31 other teams, too, so we’re always evaluating. We’re always looking and look, we’re going to take the positives out of this game and learn. But, we’re also going to find the negatives and what can be done about them, or it is what it is.”

On Detroit's fourth offensive possession, a fumbled exchange between quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and running back Craig Reynolds ended up being a miscommunication issue along the offensive line.

Campbell noted, when asked about the turnover, "Yeah, that was not either one of them. That was an offensive lineman.”

Detroit's struggles finding reliable depth pieces along the offensive line are not unique, as every team is seeking depth at multiple positions.

For the Lions, the concern level has certainly grown, especially because the team's starting offensive line has not played a significant amount together in the past two seasons.
