Final
Jets 23, Packers 14
The Packers fell to 0-2 in the preseason, as if that record means a thing. Third-team quarterback Benkert put a charge through the crowd early but the offense couldn't muster anything in the second half, the defense couldn't create a big play and the special teams' perpetual struggles continued.
Up next: The cut from 85 players to 80 by 3 p.m. Tuesday. The preseason will conclude at Buffalo next week.
Fourth Quarter
Jets 23, Packers 14 (3:05 remaining)
Kurt Benkert’s day is over. He finished 18-of-25 passing for 151 yards with one touchdown, one interception and an 83.9 rating. Jake Dolegala, re-signed on Wednesday, will finish the game at quarterback.
After the 2-minute warning, Dolegala went deep to Reggie Begelton but was intercepted by Lamar Jackson.

While Jake Dolegala was warming up, Kurt Benkert’s back at quarterback with Green Bay trailing midway through the fourth quarter. After leading the Packers to touchdowns on two of the first three possessions, Green Bay has only four first downs and two giveaways in its last five possessions.
Injury update: Jets QB Mike White (rib) is out.
Third Quarter
Jets 23, Packers 14 (5:59 remaining)
Matt Ammendola’s 30-yard field goal made it a two-score game. Once again, Green Bay’s defense was put behind the 8-ball because of its special teams. JK Scott’s 21-yard punt set up the Jets at midfield. Consecutive runs by Michael Carter gained 18 and 8 yards. On third-and-4, linebacker Kamal Martin blitzed, drilled quarterback Mike White and forced an incompletion.
Jets 20, Packers 14 (11:33 remaining)
The Packers’ defense held firm after the quick turnover. Rookie defensive tackle TJ Slaton’s sack, set up by a good rush by outside linebacker Jonathan Garvin, was the key to limiting the Jets to Matt Ammendola’s 46-yard field goal.
Injury update: Jets OL Conor McDermott (knee) is out.

On the first play of the second half, running back Patrick Taylor coughed it up – not just a turnover but a major blow to the first-year runner’s chances of making the roster.

No. 3 quarterback Kurt Benkert, with just about every key player getting the day off, had a strong first half, going 12-of-16 for 103 yards and one touchdown, good for a 112.2 rating. Of his four incompletions, two were drops (Jace Sternberger and Malik Taylor) and a third came when he was belted by an unblocked blitzer. The running game, which couldn’t get into gear last week, manufactured a combined 76 yards on 15 carries by AJ Dillon, Kylin Hill and Patrick Taylor.
Second Quarter
Jets 17, Packers 14 (1:53 remaining)
After Green Bay’s crazy touchdown drive, Corey Ballentine returned the ensuing kickoff 73 yards to the Packers’ 30 to set up the Jets for the go-ahead touchdown. With starting quarterback Zach Wilson in the game, he threw an 18-yard touchdown to tight end Tyler Kroft, who dodged Kabion Ento's tackle at the 5 and plowed through safety Henry Black at the goal line.
Packers 14, Jets 10 (3:27 remaining)
Kurt Benkert’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Jace Sternberger capped one of the most chaotic drives you’ll ever see. Green Bay drove 81 yards in 19 plays for the go-ahead touchdown. Benkert stumbled over his linemen and fell on his butt twice, and veteran lineman Lucas Patrick was flagged twice for holding. But Benkert was sensational on third down. He converted a third-and-5 with a 6-yard pass to running back Kylin Hill, a third-and-8 with a 9-yard completion to Malik Taylor, a fourth-and-2 with an 11-yard pass to Reggie Begelton, a third-and-5 with a beautiful 21-yard back-shoulder connection to Taylor and a third-and-4 with the touchdown to Sternberger, a splendid throw over cornerback Bryce Hall.
Jets 10, Packers 7 (13:46 remaining)
With the Jets’ No. 1 offense facing Green Bay’s second- and third-teamers, Zach Wilson hit tight end Tyler Kroft for an 18-yard touchdown. It looked like a breakdown in Green Bay’s zone defense, with Wilson lofting the ball over linebacker Ty Summers and in front of safety Innis Gaines. Gaines hit Kroft at the 1 but bounced off.
First Quarter
Packers 7, Jets 3 (1:38 remaining)
On third-and-8, Kurt Benkert threw open tight end Jace Sternberger but Sternberger couldn’t make the grab. It was a play he needed to make after not blocking well on second down.
Packers 7, Jets 3 (6:36 remaining)
Kylin Hill took the handoff, beat linebacker Edmond Robinson around the corner and scored on a 12-yard run. Ben Braden, starting at right tackle, had an excellent block to give Hill clear sailing once he got past Robinson. It’s Green Bay’s second touchdown of the preseason, both by Hill. Earlier, on third-and-5, quarterback Kurt Benkert ran away from trouble and fired a 23-yard pass to Malik Taylor. That play was initially ruled incomplete with Taylor out of bounds, but coach Matt LaFleur won the challenge. Running back AJ Dillon had runs of 9, 5, 11 and 3 yards and a 6-yard reception.
Jets 3, Packers 0 (10:38 remaining)
Matt Ammendola drilled a 54-yard field goal (with plenty of distance to spare) to put the Jets in front. With New York’s No. 1 offense facing Green Bay’s No. 2 defense, the Jets marched to the opening score. Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick, converted a third-and-8 with a 24-yard completion to top receiver Corey Davis, who got wide open on first-round pick Eric Stokes. Stokes got his revenge, though, with a third-and-4 breakup.
Lengthy Inactives List
When he gets snaps at practice, No. 3 quarterback Kurt Benkert generally is surrounded by the end-of-the-depth-chart players.
That will be the case for Saturday’s preseason game, too, even as Benkert gets the start.
The Green Bay Packers listed 32 players on the did-not-dress list for the game against the New York Jets. The only players listed as starters on the depth chart who will play are right guard Lucas Patrick – though he’s in a battle for his job and won’t be in the starting lineup – center Josh Myers, linebacker Krys Barnes and defensive tackle Kingsley Keke.

With eight receivers inactive, it’s no wonder why the Packers signed one on Friday. They’ll have four on the field: Malik Taylor, Reggie Begelton, Amari Rodgers and Damon Hazelton.
And if you had any question about the standing of Jace Sternberger, four tight ends are inactive – including former bouncer Dominique Dafney. Sternberger, however, will be in the lineup. He’s among the players who need a big performance to make the roster.
