Romo Empire: Patriots Get CBS 'A Team' Twice Early in Marquee Matchups

In this story:
When this NFL season kicks off, New England Patriots games will at least sound familiar.
The Patriots' championship exploits in the new century have afforded them the best that the NFL's broadcast partners have to offer. That trend will continue over the opening weeks of the year.
CBS Sports officially unveiled its NFL announcing groups for this season on Monday, as well as where they'll be over the first three weeks on the upcoming schedule. The network's top booth pairing of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, as well as their sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, will narrate two of the Patriots' first three games: they'll be at Gillette Stadium's booth for the Philadelphia Eagles' visit on kickoff weekend before moving onto MetLife Stadium in Week 3, where they'll call New England's attempt to extend its winning streak against the New York Jets to 15.

Nantz is entering his 20th season as the lead play-by-play man for CBS and has called some of the most memorable games in Patriots history, including two of their Super Bowl victories. He'll be joined by Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback entering his seventh year as the color commenator alongside Nantz while Wolfson has been with CBS since 2004.
While there has been some pessimism around the Patriots' championship prospects this season, it's easy to see why their early games received the royal treatment from CBS: Week 1 will mark Tom Brady's return to Foxborough, as the Patriots are set to honor the career of lauded quarterback upon the visit of the defending NFC champions (and Brady's two-time Super Bowl opponent). Meanwhile, the Jets are seeking to close the championship gap against the Patriots with young talents like Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, as well as newly-acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers, in tow.
CBS' top grouping called two Patriots games all of last season, including their Week 4 visit to Green Bay and the season finale in Buffalo. New England's early schedule is heavy on prime time representation: their Week 2 contest against the Miami Dolphins will be part of NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" package.
Further New England representation appeared on the CBS slate in the form of former cornerback Jason McCourty, who will be part of a three-man booth alongside play-by-play man Chris Lewis and fellow analyst Ross Tucker. They'll be joined by Amanda Guerra for the Week 1 contest between Tennessee and New Orleans.
