Rams Learn Price Tag To Extend Byron Young This Offseason

In this story:
WOODLAND HILLS, Ca. One of the many topics that we have been covering this offseason are the looming extension talks for the 2023 Draft Class.
The Los Angeles Rams' draft class is stacked with stars who have proven they deserve big-time extensions. Players like Puka Nacua, Kobie Turner, and others are eligible for deals, but the biggest question revolves around Byron Young and his future with the franchise.
Where Byron Young's Value Is At
With an ever-increasing market, teams are attempting to sign players as soon as possible, and Les Snead's protoge just did that. Jacksonville Jaguars general manager and former Rams assistant James Gladstone signed EDGE defender Travon Walker to a massive, nine-figure extension as reported by NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
"Jaguars signed Travon Walker to a four-year, $110 million extension that includes $77M guaranteed and $50M fully guaranteed at signing, per @eliteloyaltysp ," stated Schefter.

Walker, a member of the 2022 draft class for which he was the first overall pick, has 27.5 sacks in four professional seasons, along with 200 total tackles and 36 tackles for loss.
Young, in three professional seasons, has 27.5 sacks, 205 total tackles, and 32 tackles for loss. Young turned 28 this year, and Walker is set to turn 26 next season. Young also had a Pro Bowl selection; Walker does not.
What Does This Mean For the Rams
Considering everything, that price range is where we expect a potential deal for Young to fall in, in terms of average annual value. Walker's deal comes out to around $27.5 million per season. However, based on Young's age and the Rams' recent deals, Young is likely looking at a three-year deal or a four-year contract that the Rams can get out of after three seasons.

This would greatly benefit Young as the majority of his money will get paid out upfront, while leaving a little room for what would then be the back half of his career to sign a third deal.
Now the question for the Rams is if Young is worth that price because someone will pay it, and after Odafe Oweh's extension, it is clear that the price keeps climbing, so if a deal is to be executed, it must be soon.
The Ultimate Decision
For the Rams, it comes down to what Young's signing would mean. Would they have to endure losses that they can't make up, or will they be able to make things work, despite other potential deals? We will have to wait and see, as the team doesn't expect to focus on extensions until after the draft.
