Baltimore 'Perfect Place' for Lamar Jackson Says Super Bowl Winning Coach

While the contract situation between Lamar Jackson and the Ravens remains unresolved, a former Super Bowl winning coach offered his analysis.

As free agency continues on and free agents are either returning to their team or finding a new home, perhaps the offseason's biggest storyline has yet to be resolved.

The Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson have yet to agree to a contract extension and as such, both parties appear to be at an impasse. Of course, with such a high-profile contract dispute will come plenty of criticism for both the Ravens and Jackson himself.

It is easy to see the criticism of both sides, however in an interview with The 33rd Team former Super Bowl winning coach Mike Martz made his thoughts on Jackson clear.

“He was in a perfect place," Martz said. "Not every team is going to embrace him and his unique talents like Baltimore did, and right now, it appears he’s just looking out for dollars without seeing the bigger picture.”

When Jackson missed time in recent seasons it was clear to see a drop in offensive production. However, Martz does not believe he'll find a team better suited to his playstyle than Baltimore.

"That environment in Baltimore would let him continue to play at a high level," Martz said. "But if he leaves there, who’s to say his elite play will continue? I’m not certain of it."

"As a passer, Jackson is just OK. He’s accurate. He’s got a strong arm, but he’s not a guy who will get you a quick read."

Jackson, though, has shown he is more than capable as a passer with a 63.7 career completion percentage. While there are knocks on Jackson, including durability questions, he's shown he can be a consistent passer.

Even if his criticism might not be 100 percent accurate, Martz does raise a valid point. The Ravens have built their offense around Jackson, and he's shown he can win an MVP as a result.

For both parties, it would likely be beneficial to see a reunion - whether that happens, of course, is still yet to be seen.
