Roquan Smith Says Ravens Are "In For Something Special" In 2023

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith isn't shy about his confidence in the team this season

Linebacker Roquan Smith may just be entering his first full season with Baltimore Ravens after via a mid-season trade, but he's already a Raven through and through.

From the moment he arrived in Baltimore, Smith has given his all to the Ravens. He played at an all-pro level for the Ravens in the second half of the season, and has been thoroughly involved in the team's offseason activities. With a shiny new extension this offseason, Smith should be a leader for Baltimore's defense for a while to come.

As a leader of the defense, it's only natural that Smith is hyping up his team. The linebacker hasn't been shy about his confidence in the Ravens, and recently he said that the 2023 season will be one to remember in Baltimore.

""I'm just excited to get out there and fly around with the guys, because I think we're in for something special," Smith said via BaltimoreRavens.com. "And I think myself, personally, I think it's going to be probably my best year, at least the way I feel physically and mentally."

Smith got a taste of the playoff action last season, but a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card Round wasn't anywhere near satisfying enough. Smith and the Ravens aren't just looking for more postseason success this season, but to dish out some revenge as well.

"We want all the smoke, honestly," Smith said. "There's a lot of payback that we have out there. We'll get to it when we get to it, one week at a time."

The Ravens have built a reputation as a tough, hard-nosed defensive team, and Smith seems to embody that perfectly. If his confidence translates to his play on the field, then the Ravens may really be in for something special this season.

"Never scared. Wasn't born scared, wasn't planning to die scared," Smith said. "I think most of the guys on the defense live the same way. People may fear us, [and] we want to strike that. At the end of the day, we're coming out to take your heads off."
