Ravens' QB Decision to Determine Todd Monken's Offensive Expectations?

The signing of Geogia Bulldogs' Todd Monken as offensive coordinator has been met with excitement, but what are the expectations of Balitmore's offense with him in charge?

The Baltimore Ravens parted ways with offensive coordinator Greg Roman after four seasons. Now, former Georgia Bulldogs OC Todd Monken is taking charge. But what are realistic expectations for an offense that doesn't know who the quarterback will be next season?

After Lamar Jackson had led the Ravens to an 8-3 record before the game against the Denver Broncos where he was injured, Baltimore only scored less than 20 points just twice (one was 19).

Once Jackson was ruled out, Tyler Huntley took over, and the Ravens failed to surpass 17 points a game. So, under Monken, can we expect more of the same?

Or will we see wrinkles in his scheme that saw Georgia average 40.7 points per game in 2022?

It will likely be both. Monken will want to exert his style on the offense while keeping some of the things that worked well last year in Roman's scheme.

While the Ravens could only average 20.6 points per game (Jackson not playing likely saw the number drop to that), Monken could have the Baltimore offense clicking and scoring more.

But...

That depends on the quarterback. If it is Lamar, then Mark Andrews, Demarcus Robinson, Devin Duvernay, and Isaiah Likely will all get their turns in the sun.

If it's Huntley, then expect the offense to be dialed back to simplify things.

Not to mention that Monken doesn't want to be a one-trick pony either, as running backs Kenny McIntosh and Daijun Edwards both got their fair share of carries for Georgia last year.

Baltimore has two good running backs in J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, not to mention the running ability of Jackson as well so it could be a very balanced, potent attack at his disposal.

Monken stated earlier in the week that he will want to stretch the field, be explosive and create mismatches in a no-huddle offense.

It could be fascinating to see how Monken incorporates his thoughts and ideas into the offense. Improvements on last year's output should be relatively easy, but that ultimately depends on who is lining up under center come Week 1.
