Ravens WR Zay Flowers and TE Isaiah Likely 'At The Heart' of New Look Offense
The Baltimore Ravens were under the NFL microscope for much of the offseason as quarterback Lamar Jackson continued his angst-filled contest with the organization in search of a new contract.
After securing his long-term future with the Ravens, and with the arrival of new offensive coordinator Todd Monken, there are expectations that Jackson's game could be taken to a whole new level.
Jackson isn't alone, however, and ClutchPoints sees two young members of Baltimore's roster as critical pieces of the new offense.
"The steady drumbeat out of Ravens camp is that rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers has been close to unguardable," ClutchPoints says. "He's even earned the nickname "Joystick" from quarterback Lamar Jackson."
A first-round pick in the latest NFL Draft the Ravens took Flowers out of Boston College with the 22nd pick on Day 1 looking to create a threatening receiving trio with him and Rashod Bateman playing background singers to star newcomer Odell Beckham Jr.
Joining Flowers in this analysis of young Baltimore players ushering in a new day of offensive firepower is second-year tight end Isaiah Likely.
"Todd Monken showed at the University of Georgia that he can incorporate multiple tight ends and feature them heavily within his offenses," ClutchPoints continues. "That's good news for Isaiah Likely, who could share the field with Mark Andrews more frequently than he did last year."
During recent joint practices with the Washington Commanders, Jackson targeted his tight ends - mainly Andrews - early and often in team drills.
Monday night the Ravens will travel to FedEx Field to face the Commanders in a preseason game, and provide us with another opportunity to see the new wrinkles in Monken's offense with Jackson and his five formidable weapons anticipating the start of the regular season.
