Demario Davis Not Going Anywhere, Extends Contract And Eyes Finishing Career With Saints

Demario Davis extends his deal with New Orleans and looks to be set to finish his career in the Big East. Right where he belongs.

NEW ORLEANS -- There are free agent signings that help your team win and there are free agent signings that change and define the culture of your entire organization. Linebacker Demario Davis is the latter as one of the best free agency acquisitions in New Orleans Saints franchise history. And now, it looks like Davis will finish his career right where he belongs.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Davis and the Saints agreed upon a re-worked deal that will will keep him in New Orleans through the 2025 season. The outstanding linebacker was set to go into his final year during the 2024 season with lingering questions about whether or not his contract would be restructured. Instead, the Saints extended him into the 2025 year which was set to be the first void year of his previous deal.

It is unclear for now how much money the Saints will receiver in cap relief for 2024 thanks to this agreement, but they certainly will get some help out of it. The team made a similar arrangement with starting safety Tyrann Mathieu last week. That means the Saints defense will feature both Mathieu and Davis for at least two more seasons.

There were some uncorroborated trade rumors going around regarding Davis this offseason, but nothing felt was ever going to come of that. Now, those questions are answered and the rumors can be silenced.

Davis has been a first or second-team All-Pro every season since the 2019 year. He joined the Saints in 2018. He has set and reached his career high in sacks in each of the last two seasons with 6.5 and has been a consistent 100+ tackle linebacker for the defense since arriving. Beyond that, his work in the community and leadership in the locker room just add to and deepen his stance as one of the most impactful acquisitions of the franchise's history.
