'Our Vision!' Seattle Seahawks' Mike Macdonald To Forge New Identity

The Seattle Seahawks built a steady foundation under Pete Carroll, but it's time for Mike Macdonald to put his own spin on the team.

For the first time in 14 years, the Seattle Seahawks have a new head coach.

Out goes Pete Carroll, in comes Mike Macdonald, a man only half his predecessor's age and the new youngest coach in the league. It's not a complete reset as the foundation Carroll built is largely still intact, but it's certainly the beginning of a new era as Macdonald looks to put his own stamp on the Seahawks.

"(Carroll's) such an integral part of building this foundation, of who the Seahawks are, and that's one of the reasons why it was so appealing for this opportunity. So it's hard to separate those things," Macdonald said, per NFL.com. "However, like I said in my press conference, the only person that's unique to me is me, so that's the person I'm going to be. I have my way of seeing things and what I believe in, and a lot of that is aligned with what he believes in, from what I understand. However, this team needs to take on its own identity, just like any team, any year, and I'm the one to lead that charge. So it'll be in our vision, and we'll move forward."

As for what that identity is, Macdonald envisions a team of players that play for the betterment of everyone around them.

"I think we're hungry, I think we're a determined group, I think we have a lot of people on our team, both players and coaches, that have a lot to prove," he said. "And I'm excited about that, so it starts now, definitely starts April 8 when the guys get in the building and we can kind of start getting after it."

It's going to be a different feeling in Seattle with a new coach, but Macdonald is ready to move forward while honoring those who came before him.
