Seahawks Trade for Chase Young? Seattle Named as 'Logical Suitor'

After pursuing defensive line reinforcements this offseason, could Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young be in play for the Seattle Seahawks?

Entering the offseason, the Seattle Seahawks knew it was imperative that they strengthen their defensive front, chiefly along the defensive line, after a rough showing in 2022.

They did just that, signing free agents like Dre'Mont Jones and Jarran Reed, while also drafting Derick Hall out of Auburn. However, they likely are not done with the reinforcements just yet.

They might look to continue adding both key depth pieces and starting caliber players. One potential name that could come into play is Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young.

Young has had his name pop up in trade rumors this offseason, and CBS Sports believes Seattle is one of the logical suitors for the defensive lineman.

"Pete Carroll deploys more of a hybrid 3-4 defense, which would present foreign scenery to Young," CBS Sports wrote. "But Seattle has been all about upgrading the defensive front this offseason, bringing in Dre'Mont Jones and reuniting with Jarran Reed."

"With hopes of a second straight playoff bid, they could justify another low-risk, high-reward swing in the trenches."

Young burst onto the scene as a rookie in 2020, recording 44 tackles, with 10 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, while also forcing four fumbles en route to being named Defensive Rookie of the Year.

In the two seasons following though, he has dealt with injuries and not matched that level of production. He appeared in just 12 games, 11 of which were starts, in the 2021-22 season, only recording a combined 31 tackles with three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

There is no denying the talent that Young possesses, evident by his rookie season. That being said, he is coming off back-to-back years where his season was plagued with injuries.

The allure of adding a young, explosive pass rusher of Young's caliber is undeniable on paper. However, the question is if he is worth a potential high asking price. If Seattle doesn't believe he is then it is better off looking elsewhere to reinforce the defensive line.
