Seahawks CB Depth? Pete Carroll 'Feels Pretty Good' Ahead of Draft

After landing two corners in the 2022 draft, coach Pete Carroll has plenty of confidence in who the Seattle Seahawks have in the building.

There are several directions the Seattle Seahawks can go when they find themselves on the clock with No. 5 overall pick. A common pick for them there is addressing the defensive front, with Georgia's Jalen Carter a popular selection in many mock drafts

However, the Seahawks have also been linked to the possibility of a cornerback with the fifth pick by some. While there is no such thing as too much talent in the secondary, coach Pete Carroll is happy with their current corner depth.

"Yeah, I think coming back off of this first year of seeing Tariq and Michael play together, we feel pretty good about that, and knowing that Tre didn't have a chance to really contribute much," Carroll said. "Coby's addition, as well, we're in pretty good shape right there. They're going to get way better.

"They're going to improve a great deal, and they played pretty good this past year in their first really go around. I feel pretty good about that spot. We're always looking to add, but at least we know what we've got coming back."

With a pair of second-year corners in Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant, as well Michael Jackson and Tre Brown, the Seahawks certainly aren't hurting for talent at the corner position.

Yes, there are cornerbacks who would likely be worth using the fifth pick on - namely Devon Witherspoon out of Illinois and Christian Gonzalez from Oregon. Despite that, though, it is not a position they should focus heavily on at No. 5 overall.

Rather, if they do want to add a cornerback there is still talent to be had in the later rounds for Seattle with guys like Kelee Ringo out of Georgia or Garrett Williams out of Syracuse.

They've shown they can hit on those later round picks at corner, with Bryant and Woolen drafted in the fourth and fifth round respectively. Don't be surprised if they add a cornerback in the draft week, but don't expect one to come with one of their first-round picks.
