Seahawks BREAKING: Cody Barton Signs with Commanders - Full Details

After four years with the Seattle Seahawks, Cody Barton now joins a Washington Commanders team that was close to sniffing the playoffs this past season behind an impressive defense.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Cody Barton is heading to the opposite side of the country for the 2023 season, as the Washington Commanders are signing him to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal, per reports Monday from NFL Network.

The one-year deal is worth $3.5 million with $1 million in incentives.

Barton, who appeared in 65 games across four seasons with the Seahawks after being drafted by them in the third round in 2019, received starting reps at linebacker this past season and put together a solid campaign as a result.

After recording just 95 tackles in his first three seasons combined, Barton posted 136 total tackles in 2022, the 15th-most in the NFL. He also added two sacks, six passes defended and two interceptions.

Barton now joins a Commanders team that was close to sniffing the playoffs this past season behind an impressive defense. Washington allowed the third-fewest yards per game (304.6) last season, which ranked only behind the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, who met in the NFC Championship.

Washington also allowed the fourth-fewest passing yards per game (191.3). And with Barton showing flashes of productive coverage ability as a linebacker after snagging two interceptions in a three-game span this past season, the Commanders could have an even better defense in 2023.
