Fan Favorite: Seahawks QB Geno Smith Voted NFL Comeback Player of the Year

Geno Smith put together the best season of his career for the Seattle Seahawks, and the fans recognized his success.

When quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, it was presumed that 2022 would be a down year for the Seattle Seahawks.

After all, when you look at Geno Smith's career stats, it isn't too hard to see where the doubts were coming from. In his first eight seasons, Smith only threw for 6,911 yards with 34 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.

Simply put, the expectations outside of Seattle were low for Smith and the Seahawks.

Instead of proving the doubters right, though, Smith put together an MVP caliber season and had Seattle in the hunt for an NFC West division title late into the season.

His resurgent season not only led the Seahawks to claim the final NFC playoff spot, but Smith was FOX's fan-voted Comeback Player of the Year.

Smith's 2022 numbers nearly matched his career numbers, as he threw for 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions while completing 69.8 percent of his passes.

Rather than punting on the season, the Seahawks made the playoffs and Smith showed that he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback. The question now, though, becomes what the future holds for him in Seattle.

The Seahawks have plenty of options, from retaining Smith both in the short and long term to pursuing someone in the draft. Whatever they do though, Smith has shown that he is worth giving a big contract to for whichever team offers him one.
