Continuing to shuffle their defensive line prior to Thursday's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks signed rookie defensive tackle Anthony Montalvo on Wednesday.

In a corresponding move to create space for Montalvo, as announced officially by the team, Seattle waived/injured second-year edge rusher Joshua Onujiogu.

A former walk-on at UCF who eventually earned a scholarship with the program, the 6-2, 290-pound Montalvo appeared in 57 games for the Golden Knights, amassing 130 tackles, six sacks, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble. After going undrafted, the Dolphins signed him in May and he opened camp with the team before being waived last week.

With veteran Bryan Mone and XFL signee Austin Faoliu currently on the PUP list, Montalvo should immediately vie for reserve snaps in the interior against fourth-round pick Cameron Young and undrafted rookie Robert Cooper.

Onujiogu, who joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Division III Framingham State last season, spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad. He made his NFL debut against the Buccaneers in Munich, registering three tackles while playing 11 defensive snaps before returning to the practice squad the following week.

Onujiogu returned to Seattle on a future/reserve deal in January and spent the entire offseason program with the team and got off to a strong start in training camp. Recently suffering a significant elbow injury according to coach Pete Carroll, it remains unknown if he will need surgery and he will revert to injured reserve if he isn't claimed off waivers by another team.
