The Seattle Seahawks may have dominated the New York Giants in a 24-3 road win on Monday Night Football, but the game itself was far from pretty.

Both teams combined for 14 penalties, eight for Seattle and six for New York. More importantly, tempers flared multiple times during the middle of the game, particularly between the Seahawks' offense and the Giants' defense.

The reason why? An awkward tackle by Giants linebacker Isaiah Simmons on Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. After the play, Smith came up limping and had to briefly leave the game before coming back after halftime. Smith was understandably upset about the play, and even outright accused Simmons of playing dirty after the game.

"A dirty play. Dirty play. You guys can see it, it was a dirty play," Smith said. "There's no place in this sport for that.

"I just don't respect that type of stuff. There's no need for that type of stuff. ... We're all battling, but there's no need to take shots at guys running out of bounds on the sideline."

Smith didn't wait until after the game to voice his frustrations, as he got into multiple verbal arguments with Giants defenders after the play. Unfortunately for Smith, those disputes cost him a pretty penny as the NFL fined him $10,927 for unsportsmanlike conduct on Saturday.

On the other hand, neither Simmons nor any other Giant received fines at all.

The type of tackle Simmons made, commonly known as the "hip-drop tackle" has been the subject of controversy. In the offseason, the NFL even discussed banning it in the offseason, showing data that injuries are 20 times more likely to occur than on other types of tackles. Notably, Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard suffered a broken leg on such a tackle during last season's playoffs.

For now, though, the tackle remains legal and Simmons avoids punishment. On the other hand, Smith is likely not happy about being the only player to draw a fine from this game.
