The Seattle Seahawks received praise from NFL analysts after the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. With the selection of cornerback Devon Witherspoon at No. 5 and receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba at No. 20, the Seahawks drafted top prospects at two very important positions, making them one of the winners of Day 1 to many.

After such a strong Day 1, Seattle followed it up by selecting Auburn edge rusher Derick Hall at No. 37 and UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet at No. 52 on Day 2. However, these picks have been much more divisive than those on Day 1.

Reactions to the Hall pick have been generally positive. CBS Sports gave the pick an A- grade, calling Hall "precisely the type the Seahawks needed on the defensive line."

Some are a bit more cautious, but still positive about the pick overall. Bleacher Report gave the pick a C+ grade, but still said "Hall's pass-rushing plan is based on beating an offensive tackle off the snap, taking advantage of a designed slant or relentlessly hustling to make a play. All three of those traits can be valuable if used properly."

However, the Charbonnet pick has generated more divided opinions. The criticisms of the pick aren't about Charbonnet himself, but about the Seahawks already having a quality running back in Kenneth Walker, who surpassed 1,000 yards as a rookie last season.

"Charbonnet is a physical, athletic rusher," CBS wrote. "Compact balance galore. But is this needed after Kenneth Walker last season?"

However, some view the pick a bit differently. Instead of criticizing the Seahawks for adding another running back, some praised them for taking some of the pressure off Walker.

"The team could have viewed him as its workhorse," BR said. "Instead the game isn't played quite the same way when Marshawn Lynch made the earth move. Charbonnet is a further commitment to playing a physical style of football and leaning on the ground game, even with Geno Smith's return to the lineup."

It's important to remember that these are just first reactions to these picks. Only time will tell how well they truly pan out.
