Seahawks Training Camp: Riq Woolen Patient After Return From PUP

Seattle Seahawks corner Riq Woolen was moved from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to the active list on Sunday. But he and the team are taking it slow with regard to his return to full action.

Woolen originally suffered the knee injury walking between drills during an offseason practice in May and flew down to Texas for a clean-up procedure. That caused him to miss the rest of Seattle's offseason, although has been present at all of the practices to this point.

Woolen has been limited to offseason walkthroughs and individual drills, but that's not the way he'd like to handle things. But Woolen knows the advantages of being patient with his return.

“I’m anxious but at the same time, being patient,” Woolen said, via Corbin Smith AllSeahawks.com. “I know when the time comes, it’ll be time for me to be out there. So far, I’ve been taking all the mental reps I can, and just doing whatever the coaching and training staff tell me to do. That way, we can follow the plan where I can come back healthy and at the right time.”

Last season, Woolen registered 63 tackles, six picks and three fumble recoveries, and was honored with a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season.

Working his way back into football shape, Woolen will be eased back into a full workload and the Seahawks can afford to be patient with veterans Mike Jackson and Tre Brown as well as rookie Devon Witherspoon all rotating to play snaps on the outside.
