Don't Expect Steelers Free Agent Signings to Stop Soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have moves to make in free agency.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have made plenty of noise in free agency, signing five outside players and re-signing two of their own just a week into the open market.

Through two days of legal negotiations and four days of free agency, the Steelers have inked Damontae Kazee, Larry Ogunjobi, Elandon Roberts, Cole Holcomb, Nate Herbig, Patrick Peterson and Isaac Seumalo to contracts. And with prominent names still looking for deals, don't expect Pittsburgh to slow down now.

Assistant general manager Andy Weidl has put his fingerprints on the Steelers, bringing in two of his own from the Philadelphia Eagles in Herbig and Seumalo. The reactions from fans have been positive, and the praise has been strong.

General manager Omar Khan isn't hiding in the background, though. Adding Peterson, Roberts and Holcomb, and bringing back a starting safety and defensive end is exactly what the Steelers needed.

So, what's next?

The first name to expect is Bud Dupree. The Steelers reportedly have interest, and sources have told All Steelers that it's a matter of health on whether or not a deal gets done in the upcoming days.

Pittsburgh also still needs a nose tackle. There are options in the NFL Draft, and the Steelers could have their eyes on a big man with one of their four top 80 picks. Or, they could look at the free agency market to mix a veteran with a rookie - much like the rest of their defensive line.

Names like A'Shawn Robinson, Corey Peters and Linval Joseph are all still unsigned.

They've also shown their hand at offensive tackle. Even if they feel confident enough in Dan Moore Jr. for another season, they at least did some negotiating with Orlando Brown Jr. Isaiah Wynn, Donovan Smith and Taylor Lewan are still on the market. All are older than Brown, so the plan would be much different, but it's not a position to rule out.

They've also scheduled a top 30 visit with Ohio State's Dawand Jones, and have met with bigger names like Darnell Wright at the NFL Combine. Letting a first or second-round rookie compete with Moore is on the table as well.

Sources have told All Steelers that the team is also doing their homework on wide receivers. While Calvin Austin will have an opportunity to play a prominent role in 2023, the team is looking for another weapon to add to the mix.

And finally, safety.

Even with the re-signing of Kazee, the Steelers aren't finished at the position. They finally got the three-safety look they'd been searching for, and even if Terrell Edmunds leaves for another team, they're going to want a third name next to Kazee and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The longer Edmunds remains unsigned, the likelihood of him returning to Pittsburgh becomes. This is likely a matter of wanting more money, which Edmunds deserves, but if he's unable to find it, the Steelers will be waiting.

If it's not Edmunds, Kevin Byard is reportedly on his way out of Tennessee, and there are still plenty of names on the market such as Adrian Amos and Duron Harmon.

Pittsburgh's free agency has been red hot, but don't expect things to get too quiet for too long. There are still moves to be made for the Steelers.
