NFL Draft Expert Believes Steelers Land Four Starters

The Pittsburgh Steelers have the keys to success heading into draft season.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers currently sit with the 17th, 32nd, 49th and 80th picks in the first three rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft, and according to NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah, they should be able to land four starters for the upcoming season.

Jeremiah held his annual pre-NFL Combine press conference and was asked about the Steelers and how they should approach the draft. He highlighted three positions they should look at with expectations to start this year.

"I think they're really set up well," Jeremiah said. "Talking about them just a little bit ago, when you look at the needs of offensive line, corner, you know, maybe even some more pass rush, I think where they're positioned with their picks, 17, 32, 49, and 80. Those are four -- you got four starters. I think you can get four starters with those four picks."

Jeremiah credited Steelers general manager Omar Khan for putting the Steelers in a good situation this offseason, and expects his experience with the team to be the building block for another successful draft.

Add assistant GM Andy Weidl, and Jeremiah believes Pittsburgh has the perfect mix leading their draft efforts.

"The good thing is Omar is smart," Jeremiah said. "Omar has been there. He knows what Steelers are supposed to look like and how they're supposed to play.

"I think Andy Weidl coming over there, somebody I've known forever, and he is going to kind of bring his background with the Ravens and with the Eagles, and if you look at those teams and how they've been built and the sustained success similar to the Steelers in that it's a line of scrimmage organization. So I think they're philosophically aligned there."

Now, who could they land? The answer is obvious for Jeremiah, who believes Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. is the top option for Pittsburgh.

" would love it for multiple reasons, but it would be fun if Porter were to get there,” Jeremiah said on drafting Porter. "I don’t think he’ll fall that far. Christian Gonzalez would probably be gone, as well. I’d be shocked if Witherspoon from Illinois were there. If any of those guys somehow manage to get down there, it’d be easy to run the card up for the Steelers."

The NFL Combine kicks off in Indianapolis on Feb. 28. The draft itself will be held in Kansas City on April 27.
