Chase Claypool Struggles Continue: Bears Worries Grow

The former Pittsburgh Steelers didn't have the season opener he was expecting.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers had a tough opener against the San Francisco 49ers, but they weren't the only ones black and gold fans would watch who struggled to perform in Week 1.

Entering the week, former Steelers draft pick Chase Claypool made it known that he's about to have a breakout season with the Chicago Bears. In a new offense, he believed he was ready to take the league by storm and put some of the blame on Pittsburgh for why he's struggled in the NFL.

"When you're more confident in the system, you play faster, make plays, feel good about it, have fun with your teammates more," Claypool told Sun-Time Jason Lieser. "Last season had ebbs and flows. I was making the best of any situation I could, trying to make plays no matter where I was on the field, looking at the positive side of things. It's tough mentally."

Well, his opener for the Bears didn't go as planned. The former second-round pick finished the game with no receptions after being targeted just twice in the Bears' 38-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Reviews following the game weren't great. Claypool struggled to catch the ball, but his effort on the field was noticeably poor, and many watching made it known they could tell he wasn't giving it much.

More fans noticed and didn't hold back on their comments.

The Bears have reportedly been concerned about Claypool's effort for some time, and his season-opener performance won't help the situation. How it turns out is yet to be decided, but after another year of preseason hype, the Notre Dame alum starts the season on the wrong side of the stat sheet with major worries coming as he moves forward.
