Brock Purdy Calls Out Steelers' Patrick Peterson After Win

The 49ers quarterback heard what the Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback had to say.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers had no answers for the San Francisco 49ers offense, including their second-year quarterback Brock Purdy. The former Mr. Irrelevant finished Week 1 with 220 yards and two touchdowns, including one against Patrick Peterson that brought a smile to his face.

Before the game, Peterson said the 49ers offense "had tells" and that he believed he would end up with an interception during the matchup. He alluded that San Francisco's offense was "quarterback-friendly" and that tackling those who caught the ball was more important than preparing to stop Purdy.

Well, it appears Purdy heard the noise. After the game, he addressed both touchdown passes and asked if his second was against Peterson.

"That felt good," Purdy said with a smile.

The Steelers' defense allowed 30 points in their season opener, but the offense didn't give them much help. After failing to gain more than two yards in the opening quarter, they finished the game with a 22:37 time of possession compared to the 49ers' 37:23.

Peterson said after the game that he stands by his word that the 49ers' offense had tells, and believed he could've ended up with two interceptions if he got his hands on them.

"It was there," Peterson said. "I had a opportunity to get two picks, I just didn’t grab it in. Credit to those guys. Those guys did a great job of sticking to their game plan and really getting to their identity, which is run the football, misdirections, hit those deep stops, that’s just what they do. We just wasn’t in good enough position to make those plays."

With the Steelers still believing this could be a year that ends in a Super Bowl, maybe they'll get a second chance at the 49ers. If so, Peterson will get his opportunity to flip the script in this battle with Purdy.
