Steelers Get Raving Reviews on Allen Robinson Trade
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their offseason of surprising, trading with the Los Angeles Rams for wide receiver Allen Robinson.
According to reports, the Steelers and Rams swapped seventh-round picks for the deal, and will only take on $5 million of Robinson's remaining $10 million in guarantees this season.
The consensus from the trade has been positive. As the news made its way through the NFL world, former players, opponents and critics all had good reviews about the Steelers' acquisition of the veteran wideout.
"All signs are pointing up for the Pittsburgh Steelers," Pat McAfee said on his show after hearing the news.
"Unbelievable football player, especially when he’s healthy. I have a lot of respect for A-Rob." Pacman Jones agreed.
Former Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson also gave his thoughts on the trade, saying Mike Tomlin worked his magic once again.
Robinson comes to Pittsburgh after two down years, catching just 71 catches for 749 yards and four TDs in 22 games the last two seasons. However, he brings 43 career touchdowns to Pittsburgh and will be another veteran presence to help second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett.
CBS Sport analyst Adam Schein also had nothing but positive things to say about Robinson and the move.
"I love this trade and I need to say that and show you these stats because Robinson has been a phenomenal receiver," Schein said on his show. "By the way, played with awful quarterbacks in Jacksonville, awful quarterbacks in Chicago."
If everything works for the Steelers, they could walk into the season with Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, Allen Robinson, Calvin Austin III and possibly a rookie all contributing to their receiving core. They also have Anthony Miller and Gunner Olszewski on the roster.
And with Pickett ready to take a step forward, and adjustments happening to the offensive line and Najee Harris looking to build on back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, the Steelers look to be in a good place.
"I think the Steelers with their notable offseason additions, especially on defense, I’m telling you right here, right now, they’re gonna be a sleeper team," Schein said. "Don’t sleep on the Pittsburgh Steelers when it comes to being a playoff team in 2023."
