Former Player Blasts Steelers QB Plan

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark isn't please with how the team plans to approach their quarterback situation this offseason. With a number of options on the table, he believes they're making the wrong choice by playing it safe.
During an appearance on ESPN's Get Up, Clark said the Steelers outlook of giving Kenny Pickett another shot and having him compete with Mason Rudolph fits the bills, but isn't how they should go about their quarterback room.
"If they do all that, it is going to be on-brand for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it’s going to be dead wrong in this situation," Clark said. "You’re going to strap your team to a quarterback that can’t lead you to the promised land. The reason the Terrible Towel means something, the reason that six Lombardis mean something is because that organization was built on excellence. Kenny Pickett is not going to be your leader to the promised land of excellence. And if he’s not, I do believe it is time to do something different at that position."
The Steelers have been named a landing spot for Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, but have continued to say Pickett and Rudolph are their top choices this offseason. The team has been in communication with Rudolph's agents about re-signing him, and is hoping to get a deal done quickly during the free agency period - or prior to.
Pittsburgh likely could make a splash for either Fields or Wilson, but that could change the narrative of hoping Pickett develops in year three. However, the criticism from media and fans remains high about how the team could be preparing for their own downfall in 2024 because they are not pursuing a bigger name.
