Steelers Veteran Gives Vote to Kenny Pickett

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are being linked to almost every available, or expected to be available, quarterback on the market. In the meantime, they've made it known they still have faith in Kenny Pickett. And one veteran defender is giving his vote for Pickett to start this season.
During his latest episode of the All Things Covered Podcast, cornerback Patrick Peterson said he believes Pickett should be the starting quarterback of the Steelers this season.
“There is a new offensive coordinator, a new regime coming in, I get all that. It needs to be a competition," Peterson said. "But if I had to hand the keys over to a guy, it would be Kenny Pickett. Not only did we go out and draft this guy, we got him as our franchise quarterback. It didn’t end up panning out the way we thought it would. We fired our OC, We’re gonna give everybody a fresh start, and we drafted him to be our guy. So now we’ve got a new offensive coordinator in here, a new offensive mind, a new way of thinking on how to get the ball downfield, how to get the ball in important people’s hands.
"Kenny, getting a fresh start, should have the opportunity to be the day one. If I had to pick which one I wanted to go with, it would be, right now, Kenny Pickett."
Pickett is 14-10 as a starter for the Steelers, but seemed to take a step backward in 2023. Still, there is an argument to be made about having Matt Canada as the offensive coordinator for his first two seasons and now getting an opportunity to work with a successful play-caller in Arthur Smith.
The Steelers have stated multiple times they want Pickett to have competition this summer, and are hoping that competition is Mason Rudolph. There are reports of some internal divide about who should be the starter in 2024, but despite some giving votes to Rudolph, Peterson believes it should be Pickett.
