Will Former Steelers WR Chase Claypool Play Again This Season?

In this story:
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool hasn't dressed for a game since Week 3, but now, with the Miami Dolphins, could he finally get back onto the field in 2023?
During his two games with Miami, Claypool has been a healthy inactive for the Dolphins. Why? He's still learning a complicated offense. But head coach Mike McDaniel said he's eager to get things figured out.
"He’s done an impressive job," McDaniel told local media. "The system that he’s going in is very specific. A lot of different words mean different things, and he’s definitely hungry and ready to contribute."
It's unknown when Claypool will be on the field for the Dolphins or what position he'll play for them. There is speculation that he'll make the transition to tight end, which could actually boost the possibility that he's active for the Dolphins in the future.
"Mike McDaniel, Frank Smith and Jon Embree all were asked that very question this week and they all talked about versatility, so, sure, Claypool eventually could end getting some snaps at tight end. But he’s a wide receiver by trade and a unique one at that, so I’m going to suggest that’s where he gets his snaps," All Dolphins reporter Alan Poupart wrote in his mailbag.
Claypool is working to reset a narrative that he's not a great team player and maybe isn't good enough to be active on game days. With the Dolphins' offense seemingly clicking on all cylinders, it's hard to see where they try to fit him in.
The important part for him is that he needs to prove he's worth another contract, if not in Miami, somewhere in the league. With just three games on his resume in the final year of his rookie deal, he'll want more tape before hitting the open market in the spring.
Right now, he's continuing to learn, but if Miami sees a hole in a defense that allows Claypool to take advantage, the former Steelers wideout could see action before the season ends.
"There’s a lot of things in play there in terms of the specific defense and what we actually need in this particular game," McDaniel said, "But it’s really just evaluating that and what he offers to the team in his current state relative to the other guys and what roles would those be. So a lot of that intentionally has to be cloudy for competitive purposes."
Will Claypool play again this season? That's still up in the air for the former second-round pick.
