NFL Scouting Combine: Titans Looking for 'Sure Thing' with No. 7 Pick (But Will Listen to Offers)

The Tennessee Titans are projected to take a offensive lineman — Notre Dame's Joe Alt or Penn State's Olu Fashanu — with their No. 1 pick. But general manager Ran Carthon also will remain open to trade conversations.

INDIANAPOLIS — Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon, speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, expressed a desire for certainty with the No. 7 overall pick in the draft while keeping an open mind for potential trades.

“If you're picking in the top 10, you want ... a sure thing. I like No. 7, but I’m open," Carthon said. "We’ll listen to any offers that come. Building a consistent winner happens through the draft. The way you build for consistent success is through the draft and you need draft picks to do that. We're definitely willing to listen."

Carthon, addressing reporters for the first time since the team fired former coach Mike Vrabel in early January, discussed various topics, including the team's preparation for the Combine and the 2024 NFL Draft. Carthon said this draft was full talent, particularly at the offensive line and receiver positions — as it happens, the Titans' primary needs.

Several draft boards have the Titans taking an offensive lineman such as Notre Dame's Joe Alt or Penn State's Olu Fashanu with the seventh pick. Other mock drafts have the Titans going after one of the highly rated wide receivers.

Callahan expounded upon the need for talented players acquired through the draft.“You can never replace elite talent," Callahan said. "The better players you have, the better coach you are. Never pass on elite talent because you’re a good coach.”

TALENTED DRAFT CLASS: Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon and coach Brian Callahan raved about the depth in the 2024 NFL Draft class, particularly at wide receiver and offensive line. They're also scouting "playmakers" while in Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine. CLICK HERE

RUNNING BACKS MUST BE VERSATILE: Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan dismisses the idea that the running back position is being "devalued" in the NFL; he says there's just better distribution of responsibilities. Whether Derrick Henry returns or not, it sounds like Callahan wants plenty of backs on the roster. CLICK HERE
