Report: Raiders Ask Titans about Possibility of Trade Involving First-Round Picks in NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders likely have eyes for Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who now is projected as a top 10 draft pick and outside the Raiders' reach at No. 13. The Tennessee Titans can still get a good offensive tackle and add draft assets if they trade down.

NASHVILLE — According to reports, the Las Vegas Raiders contacted the Tennessee Titans to explore the possibility of a trade involving first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Titans have the No. 7 pick and most mock draft boards have Tennessee taking an offensive tackle such as Notre Dame's Joe Alt. Other projections have the Titans taking a receiver — Washington's Rome Odunze or LSU's Malik Nabers.

Las Vegas needs a quarterback and several draft boards since last week's NFL Scouting Combine have Michigan signal-caller J.J. McCarthy rising into the top 10 — out of the Raiders' reach.

The Athletic has reported that the Raiders have talked to several teams with higher picks.

Raiders general manager Tom Telesco "has also had conversations centered on potentially trading for picks in the 5 to 7 range, which are owned by the Los Angeles Chargers (pick No. 5), New York Giants (No. 6), and Tennessee Titans (No. 7)," Reid and Tafur reported. "That type of trade could be made to put the Raiders in range for another trade up later or a player at another premium position, but it mostly makes sense if it’s a move up for a quarterback like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy."

Good news for the Titans is the draft is deep at wide receiver and offensive line. They could move back and get a quality player plus add more draft picks as the team tries to recover from consecutive losing seasons and rebuild a roster with 24 free agents.

“If you're picking in the top 10, you want ... a sure thing. I like No. 7, but I’m open," Titans general manager Ran Carthon said. "We’ll listen to any offers that come. Building a consistent winner happens through the draft. The way you build for consistent success is through the draft and you need draft picks to do that. We're definitely willing to listen."
