Tennessee Titans Keys To Victory in Week 16 Matchup Against Seattle Seahawks

The Tennessee Titans are looking to avoid their third-straight home loss this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks and to do it they will need to make sure they accomplish these three keys to victory.

The Tennessee Titans took one of their worst losses of the season in Week 15 and they are looking to bounce back in a big way in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks. If they hope to come out victorious, they will need to focus on winning three key areas.

Stop the Run

The Seahawks boast one of the best running back duos in the NFL with Kenny Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Seattle hasn't been a great rushing offense this season, ranking in the bottom five in rushing per game, but with the talent they have and the Titans' lack of depth on the defensive line, Seattle could run it down their throats.

When Seattle does have success in the run game, they are hard to beat. In all seven of the Seahawks' losses this season, they have rushed for less than 100 yards. They are 7-1 when they do rush for over 100 yards. Seems simple, stop the run and win.

Run The Ball

On the flipside, the Titans need to run the ball this week. The Seahawks are a bottom-10 rushing defense, allowing 127 yards per game. In their last four games, the Seahawks have allowed single-game rushing totals of 169, 136, 173 and 178. This team gave up nearly 300 rushing yards to the Ravens in Week 9.

Now, those games came against much better offenses than the Titans, admittedly, but the point remains that Seattle doesn't have the personnel to consistently stop the run. While the Titans may have struggled mightily to run the ball against the Texans, the Seahawks have a much worse run defense.

Stop DK Metcalf

During the Mike Vrabel era of Titans football, the defense has always seemed to struggle with big, physical wide receivers. The Titans rarely have corners with good ball skills or the size to compete in those matchups. They still don't.

Metcalf is one of the best in the NFL and he can physically dominate his opponent. The Titans may stop the run, but if they let Metcalf get single coverage all day, he will win the game by himself. If the Titans can slow him down and stop the run, they have a good chance to win.

  • WEEK 16 INJURY REPORT: The Tennessee Titans will once again be without more than 10 players for the second-straight practice as they prepare for the Seattle Seahawks. Key players like Jeffery Simmons and Will Levis have now missed both days so far. CLICK HERE
  • CALEB FARLEY RETURNS: The Tennessee Titans have been without their 2021 first-round pick all season as Caleb Farley has been on the physically unable to perform list, but Farley returned to practice for the first time on Wednesday in a surprise, though it does not signal he will play in a game this season. • AZEEZ AL-SHAAIR EXCLUSIVE: Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair joined the Tennessee Titans on a one-year deal this season, and it's worked out well. He leads the team in tackles by a wide margin, and enjoys being a part of the Nashville community. He'd love to run in back in 2024 and beyond. CLICK HERE
  • TITANS TURN TO TANNEHILL: The Tennessee Titans not only lost to the Houston Texans, but saw starting rookie quarterback Will Levis get injured. With Levis' availability in question, head coach Mike Vrabel announced Ryan Tannehill would get the nod if Levis can't go. CLICK HERE
  • HENRY-TITANS REUNION: Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry will be entering free agency after the season and there is the chance he will not return in 2024, but if there is to be a reunion, it will be about Henry's fit in the offense just as much as the price to bring him back. CLICK HERE
  • LEVIS SHOULD SIT: The Tennessee Titans not only lost any chance at the playoffs by losing to the Houston Texans in Week 15, but they also saw their rookie quarterback get injured. If the Titans are smart, they will sit Will Levis for the rest of the season in a move that is best for both team and player. CLICK HERE
  • TEXANS CLAIM TART: Not only did the Tennessee Titans lose their Week 15 matchup to the Houston Texans, but they'll be losing their starting nose tackle to them as well. After being surprisingly cut by the Titans on Saturday, Teair Tart was claimed by the Texans on Monday. CLICK HERE
