NASHVILLE— Former Stanford coach David Shaw is in the mix for the Tennessee Titans coaching opening.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Shaw will interview with Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk and general manager Ran Carthon this weekend. Shaw can interview in person, unlike other candidates currently employed by NFL teams who must interview virtually until Jan. 22. Additionally, the Titans did not have to request an interview from anyone to meet with the former Stanford coach.

Shaw is the winningest coach in Cardinal history, with a 96-54 record in his 12 seasons. During Shaw's tenure, Stanford won three Pac-12 Conference titles in four championship game appearances and two Rose Bowl wins in three appearances.

Shaw interviewed with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday and, last season, interviewed for the Denver Broncos job that eventually went to Sean Payton. He also has NFL coaching experience as an assistant with the Ravens, Raiders, and Eagles.

Shaw is one of 11 current and former NFL assistants expected to compete for the Titans' coaching job. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown have had their first interviews.

Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan is scheduled to have a follow-up, in-person interview next week.

The Titans have requested interviews with the Detroit Lions' Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson will reportedly be interviewed on Friday.
