NASHVILLE — The biggest storyline from the Tennessee Titans first few sessions of organized team activities(OTAs) was the absence of star safety Kevin Byard. That drama officially ended this week as Kevin Byard is back on the field and participating in the Titans' mandatory mini-camp.

According to former Titans coach and current media personality Dave McGinnis, Kevin Byard has returned and is practicing for the team. McGinnis spoke on Nashville radio station 104.5 the Zone with hosts Blaine Bishop(a former Titans player) and Mickey Ryan and said, "Kevin Byard is on the field and looking like Kevin Byard."

That is great news for the Titans and their fans. Byard's absence from OTAs wasn't concerning in a vacuum. Byard is a long-time veteran with a history of hard work and durability. Mike Vrabel quelled any concern with his comments on Byard a few weeks ago acting as if it was not an issue. Also, the OTAs are voluntary at the end of the day.

However, Byard's name has been in the news this offseason after he declined to take a pay cut that the team requested. There were some unsubstantiated rumors that Byard requested a trade or his release, but those were eventually debunked by general manager Ran Carthon.

With those rumors swirling, some read deeper into Byard's absence and there was some thought that he could part ways with the team. While that was never likely, if Byard was absent from a mandatory team activity, the rumors would certainly intensify.

With Byard at the facility now though those stories can be put to bed for the most part. The Titans will now look to complete their final offseason activity before training camp kicks off at the end of July with little to no drama.
