NASHVILLE - Peter Skoronski stepped into a starting role on the Tennessee Titans offensive line almost as soon as his name was called in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

The former Northwestern standout entered the league with the reputation of a polished lineman that needed only to work at the pro level and fine-tune his game.

Thus far, that has proven accurate, as Skoronski has continued to work and improve throughout the Titans OTA and minicamp portions of the offseason program.

However, one of the best teaching tools for the young offensive guard is his time competing against Jeffery Simmons in practice.

"It's definitely trial by fire, obviously, with him being one of the best in the NFL," said Skoronski. "That's helped adjust to the speed of the game and the intensity of the NFL level."

"So now when he goes against me and kicks my ass, I've got to think, how do I adjust. How do I do this better," continued Skoronski. "So it's really great having someone, like, all those guys really to go against, and kind of force me to adjust."

While there is still work to do before Skoronski is ready for the season, the growth he has shown to this point has been right on track with the expectations of his coaches.

"He's come in and worked hard every day, and he is eager to learn and is very coachable," said offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling. "He's got a lot of techniques to work on and improve, but he's here, and he is working hard, and learning, and improving daily."

Skoronski and his rookie teammates will move forward for the next two weeks as they remain at the facility and continue to study and learn while their veteran teammates move away from football for the final break before training camp begins in late July.
