Tennessee Titans Will Face Chicago Bears QB Justin Fields in Saturday's Preseason Opener

The Tennessee Titans may not have their own starters on the field for the first preseason game of the year against the Chicago Bears, but the Bears intend to have some of theirs on the field including starting quarterback Justin Fields.

NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel hasn't typically played his starters a lot of snaps during the preseason, whether that be in game one or the last, but that will not be the route the Titans' opponent will take on Saturday.

The Titans will travel to Chicago and take on the Bears and when they do, they will see some of the Bears' starters, including quarterback Justin Fields. Bears coach Matt Eberflus said that "selected starters" will play and that the amount of reps each starter gets will be "individualized," but did confirm Fields will be playing.

Some may wonder why the Bears would play Fields so early in the preseason, but Eberflus cited "operational" things like calling the plays, getting in and out of the huddle and making the correct checks before the snap as things he wanted to see done well.

It is no coincidence we hear Mike Vrabel talk a lot about those same things when discussing his young quarterbacks in Malik Willis and Will Levis. Like Fields, both of them should be on Saturday, but certainly the Titans' pair will play a lot more.

Eberflus mentioned a range of "7 to 10 snaps' for some players and "12 to 15 snaps" for others. Expect Fields to come in closer to the 7 to 10 range, which will make for a good test for the Titans' young defenders.

Players on the Titans' defense we should expect to be out there to contain Fields in his brief stint are Rashad Weaver, Monty Rice, Jack Gibbens, Elijah Molden among others. While the Titans won't have all of their starters or likely many, seeing Fields even momentarily we be a good reference point for the coaching staff.

The Titans will take on the Bears in Chicago at 1PM ET on Saturday to kick off the 2023 preseason.
