In this story:

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans' success as a team the past two seasons has been tied directly to the performance of their pass rush group. That will likely be the case again in 2023, so seeing the Titans ranked as a bottom-twelve team at edge rusher in a recent ranking by ESPN's Mike Clay is a bit concerning.

Clay has the Titans ranked 21st in the NFL on the edge with a group of Harold Landry, Arden Key, Denico Autry, Rashad Weaver, Arden Key and Sam Okuayinonu. While you can see the issues with each member, overall it is a strong group so it is a bit surprising to see the Titans ranked so low.

Harold Landry may be coming off an ACL tear, but the injury happened before the season even started giving him a full year or recovery and Landry did put up 12 sacks his last healthy season. Denico Autry may be in his twilight years, but he had eight sacks in only 12 games in 2022. Weaver may only be a rotational edge at the end of the day, but that is what he is being asked to do this year and in that role in 2022 he went for fives sacks.

The Titans added Arden Key in free agency after he had four sacks in 2022 as the third rusher in Jacksonville. He will be kept in the same role most likely. Yes, Sam Okuayinonu is depth the Titans could improve upon, but that is a pretty stout top four at the position.

Regardless of the rankings, the Titans' edge rushers will have to perform this year to help Jeffery Simmons in the middle. With Simmons and this group flanking him, the Titans pass rush has a chance to continue winning them ball games. Knowing the current state of the Titans' offense, the defense will certainly be required to.
