NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans have found a ton of value in the NFL Accelerator program so far. The Titans new general manager Ran Carthon was someone who developed a relationship with the Titans at the Accelerator Program and it turned into a job. Now, the Titans are participating in year two of the program and sending two of their offensive assistant coaches.

Titans tight end coach Tony Dews and Titans quarterback coach/passing game coordinator Charles London will go to the Accelerator Program with the intention of forging relationships and connection, like Carthon did with the Titans, that turn into chances for career advancement.

The program will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend at the NFL's spring league meeting. What exactly is the Accelerator Program though?

It is a chance for black, women and minority talent in the NFL, including coaches and executives, to meet directly with NFL ownership. In theory, this will accelerate the career's of those people and ultimately diversify the NFL's talent pool outside of the players.

The idea here is if these candidates get to meet with NFL owners and develop those face-to-face relationships, they will have a better(and more fair) chance at obtaining better jobs. Jobs like general manager, head coach, high-level assistant roles and more.

The Titans sending Tony Dews is no surprise. The Titans moved Dews from coaching running backs to tight ends this offseason. Tight end coaches typically are more involved in game planning, so it gives Dews a chance to show his stuff a little more. Titans head coach Mike Vrabel talked about moving Dews earlier this offseason and hinted at the move being more about career advancement for Dews.

As for London, the quarterback coach just came over from the Atlanta Falcons. London was looking for a promotion and more responsibility, which he found in Tennessee while taking the passing game coordinator role along with coaching passers. The Titans are hoping to help London advance as well.
