The Chargers are the kings of creative and funny content on social media, so it should come as no surprise that they once again upped the standard with their schedule release video this year.

The entire video — which is in anime style once again — is incredible. It's chock full of hilarious easter eggs that take fun jabs at the teams on their 2023 schedule. The Chargers' social media team spared no detail, making references to all kinds of viral stories and topical memes.

With the Vikings, who host the Chargers at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 3, the video first cuts to a shot of birds crashing into the stadium and dying. A 2019 study showed that over 100 birds are killed every year by colliding with the building's reflective glass panels, which has been a controversial topic since the stadium opened in 2016.

Then it cuts to an animated Kirk Cousins figure wearing glowing chains inside the arena. Five banners can be made out in the background, and they're pretty dang funny.

  • FUN GAME VS. BILLS 2022 WK 11
  • TIMBERWOLVES PLAY-IN WINNER 2022
  • MENTIONED IN A LIZZO SONG
  • JUSTIN JEFFERSON OROY (RUNNER UP)
  • #1 NFLPA TEAM

It's obviously a light-hearted shot at the Vikings' lack of Super Bowl victories, not that the Chargers have any of those either. The banners are great because none of them are rude, which means it would be hard for a Vikings fan not to laugh when seeing them.

That Bills game was great. There's a reference to the Lizzo line "new man on the Minnesota Vikings," which is somewhat dated now but still quality. There's a jab at Jefferson, who lost the 2020 rookie of the year award to the Chargers' Justin Herbert. There's a mention of the Vikings topping the NFL player's association report cards as the most player-friendly organization in the league, which is is timely and amusing. Even the Timberwolves catch a stray!

Here's the entire video. It's worth going through it slowly and pausing on each frame to catch all the details.

Well played, Chargers social media team.

The Vikings' Twitter video for the schedule release is pretty standard (but still solid!), and they also made a cute TikTok video featuring the children of Kirk Cousins, Nick Mullens, and Andrew DePaola.
