Canucks call up Michel Ouellet from AHL

The Vancouver Canucks called up Michel Ouellet from Manitoba of the American Hockey League after he cleared waivers, and the right wing was available for Tuesday night's game against Nashville.

Ouellet, who has 52 goals and 116 points in 187 career NHL games, was acquired from Tampa Bay as part of a four-player trade Oct. 6. The Canucks left him in the AHL to start the season, and he led Manitoba in scoring with four goals and 10 points through 10 games.

The 26-year-old scored 35 goals over two seasons with Pittsburgh before signing a two-year, $2.5 million contract with Tampa Bay, where he scored 17 goals in 64 games last season.

Because of his contract, Ouellet had to clear re-entry waivers before being called up, with other NHL teams able to claim him and only have to pay half of his $1.3-million salary for the rest of this season.

Also, Vancouver sent forward Jason Krog back to the AHL.
