Blues blueliner Jackman on IR with ankle sprain

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Blues defenseman Barret Jackman has been placed on injured reserve with a sprained left ankle.

The move came Friday, a day after he was hurt in the home-opening 4-2 loss to Atlanta. Jackman has three assists and four penalty minutes in three games.

It likely means rookie Alex Pietrangelo will get his first start of the season on Saturday against the Kings. Pietrangelo was among the healthy scratches the first three games.

The Blues also assigned left wing D.J. King (thumb) to Peoria (AHL) on a conditioning assignment.(Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
