Bryce Salvador's second period goal broke a 1-1 tie, giving Anton Volchkenov and the Devils reason to celebrate. Salvador's fourth tally of the playoffs turned out to be the game-winner.

On the power play in the first period period, Zach Parise of the Devils took advantage of a misplay by Kings goalie Jonathan Quick and buried the puck in the open side of the net for his first goal of the series.

Reportedly hobbled by a back injury, Devils sniper Ilya Kovalchuk had another quiet game, firing only one shot on goal.

Devils goalie Martin Brodeur played a spectacular Game 5, posting 25 saves in the 2-1 win and even enjoyed an exchange of pleasantries after a scrum in which Jeff Carter of the Kings yanked Brodeur's sweater over his head.

Justin Williams tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period with a wicked shot from between the circles.
