GIF: Sabres' Luke Adam leaves after taking puck to the face vs. Red Wings

When you're setting up a screen in front of the net, it's preferable for the shot-firing defenseman to keep the pucks low. Well, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jamie McBain did just that, but a little bad luck sent the puck straight into Luke Adam's face.

Adam, who was called up from the Sabres AHL affiliate Rochester Americans for Friday night's game against the Red Wings, left the game after spilling some blood on the ice thanks to rubber bullet.

McBain fired a slap shot from the point, which deflected off the shoulder of Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader and right towards Adam.

Yes, that is blood dripping off his chin.

Adam showed some durability and returned to the Sabres' bench in the second period.

Friday marked the third time this season Adam had been called up to the varsity squad. As a member of the Sabres, Adam has played in 10 games this season with one goal.
