Wayne Gretzky has joined a group of investors looking to bring an NHL team to Seattle, Josh Kosman and Larry Brooks of the New York Post reported Friday night.

It's not immediately known whether the Hall of Famer and other investors are looking to relocate an existing team to the city or add a new franchise there. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman visited Seattle in May to learn more about the potential for a new arena in the Emerald City.

Hedge fund manager Chris Hansen has said he's willing to help fund plans for a new arena in the city but only if he's guaranteed an NBA franchise will play there as its home court. That plan has lost steam in recent months after Hansen's partner, Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer, purchased the Clippers this past spring.
