Washington Capitals coach Barry Trotz said he plans to use Alex Ovechkin at both left and right wing, the Washington Post's Alex Prewitt reports.

Trotz, who was hired during the offseason to replace Adam Oates as head coach, said Ovechkin will see time at both wing positions as he experiments with different lineups, according to Prewitt.

Trotz on Ovechkin's wing placement: "Actually both." Said he's leaning more towards LW entering camp, but wants versatility.

Ovechkin has won the Richard Trophy as the league's top goal scorer four times, including the last two. Three times he has won as a left wing and two seasons ago he won as a right wing. He scored 51 goals to go along with 28 assists last season.

The Capitals finished in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 90 points last season.
