Flames sign coach Bob Hartley to multi-year contract extension
The Calgary Flames have signed head coach Bob Hartley to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Hartley was in the last season of his deal. The exact terms of his new contract are unknown.
Hartley has been the Flames' coach since 2012 and has gone 71-79-13 with the team in the midst of a rebuild, having not made the playoffs since 2008-09.
Before he was hired by Calgary, Hartley served as coach of the ZSC Lions in Switzerland, leading the team to the Swiss championship in 2011-12.

Hartley has been in charge of two other NHL teams. He spent four-plus seasons with the Colorado Avalanche from 1998-2003 and made it to at least the conference finals each of those years, including a Stanley Cup championship in 2000-01. Hartley was fired after 31 games in the 2002-03 season.
He then spent four-plus seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers, beginning a month after he was fired by the Avalanche and lasting through the first six games of the 2007-08 season. He made one playoff appearance with Atlanta, in 2006-07.

The Flames are 17-14-2 this season and tied for fourth place in the Pacific Division. They host the Dallas Stars on Friday.
