NHL suspends Wild defenseman Ryan Suter for two games for elbow

The NHL has suspended Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter for two games following a hit from last night’s game against the Penguins.

About five minutes into the second period, Steve Downie was cutting through the slot attempting fire a shot on net, but Suter poke-checked the puck away from Downie.

Then, as Downie, who was still moving toward net, skated by, Suter stuck out his right elbow, catching Downie in what appears to the chin.

Downie left the game but was not seriously injured.

This was Suter’s first suspension of his career. In 2014-15, the defenseman has posted 23 points, 22 of them assists.
