Rask, Hamilton lead Bruins to 3-1 win over Stars

DALLAS (AP) Tuukka Rask was a busy man in the middle of an entertaining game.

Rask made 36 saves, and Dougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist to lead the Boston Bruins past the Dallas Stars 3-1 on Tuesday night.

''It was a fun game to watch, I bet,'' Rask said. ''There were a lot of chances on both sides, a lot of power plays.''

Dallas outshot the Bruins 37-27, but Rask got help from his defense.

''We just tried to move our feet, limit that, stay in the middle, and obviously Tuukka back there was unbelievable,'' Hamilton said. ''He made all the saves when he needed to and saved the game for us.''

Hamilton assisted on Gregory Campbell's second-period goal that broke a 1-all tie, then scored on a third-period power play.

Rask allowed the game's first goal by Vernon Fiddler at 6:46 of the second. Loui Eriksson tied it at 14:17 of the second before Campbell gave the Bruins the lead at 18:27.

Kari Lehtonen made 24 saves for Dallas.

The Stars failed to score on any of their six power plays, despite putting 16 shots on goal. They are 3 for 37 over the last nine games.

During the same period, Boston has killed off all but two of 35 penalties.

''It's good saves and good clears from the front of the net. I think we can probably give that to Tuukka for playing so well,'' Hamilton said.

Fiddler scored from the right faceoff circle. He backhanded a shot that beat Rask on the short side when he failed to catch the puck.

Later in the period, Fiddler hit the right post.

''Fiddler hits the goal post and they come down the other way, and we lose coverage and they end up scoring,'' Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. ''I think that really turned the game in their favor, just for maybe 4 or 5 minutes.

''We didn't make a lot of mistakes, but we made one there and made a coverage mistake on the point shot.''

The goals by Eriksson and Campbell late in the period gave Boston a 2-1 lead.

Chris Kelly set up Eriksson's goal. He passed across the ice to the left circle to Carl Soderberg, who backhanded a pass to Eriksson in the slot. Lehtonen couldn't get back toward the left side of the net to stop the shot.

Campbell put in the rebound of Craig Cunningham's shot from the right point.

The Bruins dominated the first 10 minutes, outshooting Dallas 7-1. Campbell appeared to score with a shot that beat Lehtonen, but Jordan Caron was called for hooking before the shot.

''He needed three tries to get one of the goals to count in this building, so finally he gets one. It was nice to see him get that break,'' Bruins coach Claude Julien said.

NOTES: Stars LW Erik Cole (upper-body injury) left after the first period. Ruff indicated Cole might miss significant playing time. ... Fiddler, an undrafted player, appeared in his 700th NHL game. ''Seven-hundred games for a guy that's like me is a pretty big accomplishment,'' he said. ... Bruins C Brad Marchand sat out the second game of a two-game suspension for slew-footing the Rangers' Derick Brassard. ... Cunningham had his first career assist in his 24th game on Campbell's goal. ... Eriksson and Reilly Smith, who assisted on Hamilton's goal, were part of the 2013 trade that sent C Tyler Seguin from Boston to Dallas. ... The game was the Stars' last before the All-Star break. The Bruins are scheduled to play at Colorado on Wednesday.
