Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang is out indefinitely after being injured during Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers, reports Sportsnet's John Shannon.

Letang was injured in the first period after being hit by Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo, who will have a disciplinary hearing with the NHL regarding the hit.

Letang, who also missed five games earlier this season with a groin injury, did not play in Wednesday night's outing against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Wild, Avalanche will host outdoor games next season

This season, Letang has nine goals and 23 assists in 40 games for Pittsburgh, which heads into the All-Star break with a 26-12-8 record and 60 points, three behind the New York Islanders in the Metropolitan Division.

Letang is part of one of the league's best penalty-killing units. Pittsburgh kills off 87.1 percent of its opponents' power-play opportunities.
