Penguins place Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve

Monday January 26th, 2015

The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed forward Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve due to his lower-body injury.

Malkin missed this weekend's All-Star activities as a result of the injury.

"He won't be ready to play right after the break," Penguins GM Jim Rutherford told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review last Thursday. "It's probably an injury that will take a little time to heal."

Teammate Sidney Crosby is also injured. The Penguins said last Thursday that Crosby has a lower-body injury that will take about a week to heal.

• Blue Jackets G Sergei Bobrovsky out 4-6 weeks with groin injury

As a result, the Penguins called up four players from their AHL affiliate on Monday.

Pittsburgh is 26-12-8 this season and in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 60 points.
