The Dallas Stars have agreed to trade right wing Erik Cole to the Detroit Red Wings for a pair of prospects, reports Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com.

The Stars will receive prospects Mattias Backman and Mattias Janmark. The teams also swapped draft picks—the Red Wings will receive a third-round 2015 selection and the Stars will get a second-round 2015 pick.

Cole's cap hit for this season is $4 million. The 36-year-old winger spent most of the last three seasons with the Stars after he was traded by the Montreal Canadiens during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. In 57 games with the Stars this season, Cole totaled 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in an average ice time of 14:32 per game.

The Red Wings (35-15-11) are third in the Atlantic Division with 81 points. The Stars (27-25-10) are last in the Central Division with 64.
